Frequency of changing underwear during menstrual period

Some of my friends find it unnecessary to change underwear every time during their period, saying that constantly changing pads is sufficient. However, I change frequently to feel more secure. Do you think this is an extra caution or how it should be? I'm curious about your routines.

Honestly, I'm also one of those who changes underwear frequently during their period because sometimes the pad leaks or there’s a feeling of discomfort. So I feel more comfortable this way, just in case. I don’t think what you do is excessive; it’s totally a matter of personal preference.

I always change my underwear too, especially since sweating increases in the summer. I feel like just changing the pad isn't enough. But in the end, everyone has a different body structure and threshold for discomfort, right? I would say find what makes you feel comfortable.

If changing too often is tiring for you, you might want to look into higher absorbency underwear specifically designed for your period. Some brands have that type of underwear. Alternatively, you can use ultra-thin panty liners as support alongside your underwear.

I'll speak openly: constantly changing seems a bit unnecessary to me. With a pad on, how dirty can the laundry really get? I mean, is it really necessary to exaggerate this much? I believe cleanliness is important, but I think there should be limits to everything.

There isn't really a clear rule for this because personal hygiene depends entirely on a person's rhythm and body type. However, of course, if there are wetness or odors in the laundry, it makes sense to change it. Generally, changing it once or twice a day is sufficient to prevent bacterial growth.

Let me add this: sometimes when I'm outside I can't change it, and then I feel uncomfortable. But when I'm at home, I change my underwear almost every time I change a pad. I was actually trying to figure out whether that is normal or too much 😬

I mean, sure, hygiene is important, but I think you're just being a bit overly cautious. Still, I was thinking, could it be that your friends' lack of interest is due to laziness, or is it something else? Maybe they're worried about the cost 😬

These topics are entirely about an individual's own decisions regarding their body. It's already problematic for someone to comment by calling it 'unnecessary.' You determine your own hygiene and comfort zone. If you want, you can change it each time; no one has the right to criticize.

I used to have the same habit of changing often, and at one point my friends criticized it as 'very expensive and tiring.' But I feel comfortable this way. Like you, I used to feel refreshed every time I changed a pad at home, and I think you're doing it right. Some people might talk differently because they're too lazy.
