Burning throat and hoarseness, should I wait it out?

For almost a week, I’ve had a serious burning sensation in my throat and slight hoarseness. I thought about taking medication, but I’m even too embarrassed to ask the pharmacist for fear of doing something wrong. Maybe it’s just a cold and it’ll pass, but I’m still not at ease. Is this kind of thing normal, or should I see a doctor?

I also experienced similar complaints for a while; my voice was getting hoarse as my throat burned. I went to an ENT, and it turned out to be related to reflux. There might be something else underlying your issue as well; I think you should see a doctor.

I went through exactly the same thing you mentioned last year, it was a viral infection. I drank linden tea and glass honey at home, but since it lasted more than a week, the doctor prescribed antibiotics. You have to act quickly.

Honestly, if you’ve had such serious burning and sound issues for a week, why haven’t you gone to a doctor yet? It’s a mistake to expect it to go away on its own. You could have at least asked a pharmacist.

Heartburn and hoarseness can be due to simple infections, as well as things like allergies or reflux. Especially if it has lasted more than a week, see an ENT specialist immediately. Starting medication at home is risky.

Let me give you a bit more information; the burning gets worse in the mornings. It feels a bit better when I drink water, but it doesn’t go away completely. My voice also seems to have strangely deepened. Could it be acid reflux?

If it gets worse in the mornings, it could be reflux, but a definitive diagnosis is made by an ENT or gastroenterologist. Make an appointment directly with the ENT and explain your problems in the mornings in detail. You’ll get a definitive result.

You say your voice has gotten deeper, maybe your immunity has dropped? Did you have a cold or something like that before? Or did you shout a lot or something? Doesn’t it make sense that these things combined could make your voice lower?

You mentioned that mornings are worse; is there a lot of dryness in the room where you sleep? If the heater is on and there’s a lack of humidity, that can irritate your throat as well. Have you ever tried a humidifier?

I experienced the same thing; the throat burning intensified in the mornings, and my voice was coming out hoarse. I noticed it during a trip outside the city; it was due to stress and fizzy drinks. The ENT doctor said it was reflux.
