Dream of prenatal vacation has sunk

We had made all the preparations, but after my wife heard her family's opinions, she canceled the vacation. It feels like my wishes don't matter at all! I don't even know how to feel anymore; has something like this ever happened to you? Will it be like this after the birth as well?

I experienced the same thing, we canceled the whole plan because my mother-in-law insisted she didn't want a distant vacation. Then we stayed with them for a week after the birth, and I regretted it a lot. I wish I had insisted.

Does this always happen with your spouse's family? Like, did they put their decision over yours for the first time?

@kahvebitmeden this isn't actually the first time. It was like this at the engagement too; it seems like he's always consulting his family.

but I think you've also been very quiet here. I mean, you noticed that this was the case at the first engagement event, a line wasn't drawn. Now, of course, things are even more complicated.

it can be even more difficult after birth. because during the newborn phase, family support is usually needed, which can involve them more in the process. you and your partner need to clarify this beforehand.

This can't be happening. What is it to hear of a preparation and then ruin it?

the title says it all. Family pressure is felt more after childbirth, I suggest you address it now.

I think the real issue isn't the cancellation of the vacation, but rather your spouse's inability to balance between you and your own family. The vacation is now canceled, but topics like postpartum childcare, decision-making, and who will have the final say during the postpartum period could get quite complicated. You need to clearly discuss your expectations with your spouse, as there seems to be a lot of uncertainty right now.
