Are the pounds we lost for the wedding invitation in vain?

A close friend of mine is getting married, and months ago I started a diet saying, 'I'll fit into that dress.' But now I realize that no one will even ask if I've lost weight; no one will notice in that crowd. Is it really worth all this effort? Or am I just doing it for myself? I don't understand.

I think you should make that decision based on who you lost weight for. I once went on a crazy diet for wedding photos, but then I realized that two months later, no one was even looking at the pictures. If you did it just for your self-confidence, it’s worth it, but if it’s for others to notice, then yes, it’s a waste.

Sweetheart, one day you're definitely going to say that you lost those pounds for yourself too. But if you're feeling down about losing weight for the wedding, maybe you can draw attention to the dress with some small accessories. People generally focus on the details. But right now, there's no need for you to let it get you down like this.

If you're trying this hard, why do you feel focused on someone else? Also, asking if you're sure they've lost weight would be rude. If you wait for that, you'll be mistaken. Think about what you're doing for yourself; if you're doing it for someone else, you're getting into a boring cycle.

Here's the thing: if you're on a diet, it needs to be slow and sustainable. Just doing something temporary for an occasion is a problem. It's important to pay attention to how you feel throughout this process. But if you're feeling down, you can ask your dietitian for a pep talk.

I'm writing this just for an update. Actually, the idea of 'doing it for yourself' made sense from the beginning, but it doesn't really work out that way in practice. It feels like looking good in that dress is somehow a social responsibility. Thinking about this made me frustrated; I guess there's a bit of confusion too 😂

But society is also a part of this, in my opinion. It affects our weight and our morale. If the mothers-in-law in the neighborhood are whispering, especially at a wedding, that's pressure too. Which wedding is "just for you"? I think it's easy to say "forget about it," but people are just not like that.
