Am I eating emotionally, or am I just making excuses?

I've recently noticed that whenever I feel angry or sad, I find myself in the pantry. But sometimes it feels like I'm eating just out of boredom, even when I'm not feeling anything. Do you think someone who eats every time they feel bad has a problem? Or does everyone do this? And how do we get rid of it?

I’ve experienced that a lot too; especially when I’m angry, I thought eating something would help me feel better. Then I realized that I was actually suppressing my emotions rather than eating. I’ve managed to balance it a bit by exercising; walking and such feels good.

To be honest, it's a matter of habit. If you're eating out of emotional emptiness, a psychologist can help, or if you're saying it's because of boredom, hobbies can do the trick. You'll figure out which one it is first.

I think you're taking the easy way out. I mean, it's necessary to have some self-criticism about always finding an excuse and diving into food; everyone gets angry, but when the situation ends in the cabinet, you need to reflect on yourself.

This is called emotional eating, a situation recognized in literature. It is generally a mechanism that provides momentary happiness but can lead to weight gain and health problems in the long run. If you can't control it, you may need to consult a specialist dietitian or psychologist.

Let me add something: I've actually had this habit for a long time, but I've noticed in the last few months that, for example, when I get angry, I tend to go for chocolate, and when I'm sad, I gravitate towards french fries. Normally, it wouldn't be so specific.

So, have you ever tried to stop eating? For example, have you tried doing something else instead of eating when you're angry? By the way, how long have you been feeling this way? 🫠

It's so familiar to get angry and go straight to the cupboard... You really feel like your insides are burning, and in that moment, eating something seems like it would save the world. But that french fry addiction is just the worst; it feels like it creates a dependency.

Well, my daughter, getting upset and eating something can happen, but is it healthy if it becomes a constant thing? A person needs to control their emotions so they can manage the day. In the past, for instance, there were no such things; we would eat and get up from the table.

I think this is somewhat a problem of our age. Everything is at our fingertips, and if we're a little unhappy, we immediately turn to food. Is it that simple? People should confront themselves a bit; instead of going to the fridge when they're angry, they should look for a solution.
