How do you resist late-night cravings?

I haven't been able to stop opening the fridge at midnight for the last few months. No matter how much I try to diet, I somehow give in, thinking 'it won't hurt just this once.' I pay attention all day, but at night I just go for it. Do you think this is purely a matter of willpower, or is my body really craving something?

I was in the same situation; I was literally being dragged toward the fridge at night. It turned out my blood sugar was dropping very quickly. On the recommendation of a dietitian, I started drinking cinnamon milk in the evenings. It sounds like a joke, but it really made a difference.

it seems like there's a big part of willpower here too. After all, if you can pay attention during the day, I think you can do it at night as well. The body doesn’t just say everything it wants from your subconscious; it feels a bit like a matter of habit 😅

It may also be wrong to see this only as emotional eating. Feeling hungry at night can sometimes indicate that meals are unbalanced. Are you getting enough protein and fiber during the day? Because that can trigger sweet cravings.

I guess it's a bit of a habit issue as well. Generally, I eat quite light in the evenings because I thought I should eat less at night to lose weight. But this time, it's causing me to feel hungry at night, I've noticed 😬

So I was also binge-eating junk food at night for a while, then I started not keeping any chocolate or anything at home. I literally can't find anything when I open the cupboard, I've gotten so used to it. If there's something at home, it's impossible to resist 🤦‍♀️

Opening the fridge and looking in with hope, thinking 'what's there?' only to regret it later... I know that feeling. Getting on the scale in the morning feels like a mood killer, right? Maybe not weighing yourself on an empty stomach in the mornings could be a solution 🥲
