Quit late-night snacking or give a little reward?

An hour after going to bed, my eyes start searching for the cupboard. I'm hesitating between getting up or not, especially for sweet things. One part of me says, 'Enjoy a little,' while the other part is shouting, 'You're harming yourself!' To be honest, when I stop eating at night, I feel happy when I weigh myself in the morning, but that sleepy, pleasurable state at the moment is tempting. Do you have any methods for dealing with or balancing such things?

I was the same way. At night, getting up to look for sweets was literally like a ritual. I would prepare fruit yogurt in small containers before going to bed. I'd put it in the fridge, so if I got up, at least it would be healthy. In the morning, it doesn't show on the scale.

Waking up happy on the scale but struggling to resist that sleepy sweet craving at night... That emotional turmoil is killing me. Especially trying to drag myself away from the bed after pulling the plug? It's not easy at all 🤭

But do we live to step on the scale and be happy? Your self-judgment seems excessive to me. I mean, you have no obligation to justify yourself to anyone just for that simple pleasure. Perhaps the issue isn't 'not causing harm,' but rather creating unnecessary pressure?

We can't actually say that late-night snacking is completely bad. However, it can generally disrupt insulin balance or make weight control more difficult. Trying something high in protein or fiber might be a solution to curb sweet cravings.

Let me add that, due to my job, my dinners tend to be heavy. I thought that maybe if I balanced my need for sweets in meals, it could reduce these crises, but I never tried it.

Eat what you want, who cares? What you consider harmful to yourself might actually be someone else's aesthetic expectation. Loving your body is more important than eating a piece of chocolate at night, and don't let it make you feel like you're living to make someone proud without looking at the scale.

But in my opinion, the real issue isn't your side that says "just enjoy a little," it's your constantly self-blaming part. I mean, how can you still feel guilty in a moment when you're happy? It's really strange 😬

In fact, it's such a common thing. At night, it's not just you; many people indulge in little escapes. It’s likely that work stress, daily pressure, or insufficient sugar-sweet intake during the day might trigger this at night. It’s perfectly normal, so don’t make it a big deal 😳
