I've had swelling in my chest for 2 weeks, should I panic?

Two weeks ago, I noticed a slight hardness on my chest; at first, I thought it was like a pimple, but it also hurts a little when I touch it. I’m not close to my period, so I’m not sure if it’s a normal swelling or something serious. If I tell my family, they’ll panic and drag me straight to the doctor. Do you think I should go right away or observe it a bit more? Has anyone experienced something like this?

I noticed a hard lump in my chest once, it was painful but had nothing to do with my period. I went to the doctor right away, and it turned out to be a fibroadenoma. It was benign, but the important thing is early diagnosis. I think you shouldn’t neglect it and see a general surgeon without delay.

Lumps in the chest that are painful may not always be something serious, but if it has been more than 2 weeks, you definitely need to see a doctor. You can make an appointment with a general surgeon for this. Especially if it is painful, it may indicate that something is not right; observing it further can be risky.

Thank you for your quick response, let me add a detail: The swelling doesn’t seem to be deep within the breast tissue, but rather closer to the surface. Its size hasn’t changed but the pain continues. It feels a bit tender to the touch.

You’re saying it’s not related to your period, but have you experienced such swelling before? Or have you had any hormonal issues? Maybe stress lately could have affected it as well.

Everyone says to rush to the doctor, but not every swelling is necessarily a bad thing. My friend had something similar, and it went away with a bit of hot compress. I think you should monitor it yourself first; there’s no need to panic.

Sometimes the body gives different signals in such matters, it could be something hormonal or whatever. But if you’re not telling the family, maybe you’re not thinking as simply as you say. It feels like you might be suspecting something deep down.

Make an appointment with a general surgeon as soon as possible. Definitely don’t delay because if there’s pain, it could be inflammation or something else. You don’t have to explain everything in detail to your family; just say, ‘I’m going for a check-up’ and move on. It’s better to go than to wait uncertainly and have peace of mind.
