I was fired, but my severance pay seems insufficient; what should I do?

Friends, I was suddenly let go from the company where I worked. They said the reason was low performance, but actually they downsized our department. I calculated my severance pay, and I think it's insufficient. I'm afraid if I confront my boss, something negative will happen. If I go to court, will there be costs involved? Or should I go directly to a mediator? Has anyone else been in this situation before?

We had a relative who said exactly this to me: 'When you start talking to the boss, it turns into a nightmare wondering if he'll threaten you.' So she went straight to a mediator and got it started, and there were no costs. I think you should go too; there's nothing scary about it.

In such a situation, your rights definitely shouldn't be violated. Why didn't you try to talk face-to-face with your boss first? After all, they have a managerial title and could acknowledge your point and find a solution. Plus, when it goes to court, the process drags on.

But one thing caught my attention, they say performance is low but you're saying there's a reduction. Why were you chosen, for instance? Was your experience low? Could opening a case before fully understanding the reason backfire?

Let me update you, I actually talked to the boss once, but he said, 'Your reason for leaving is performance, compensation has been calculated clearly.' I still think there's something missing. I spoke with a lawyer acquaintance, and they're saying to go to mediation, but hopefully I haven't missed the deadline.

What kind of logic is this? The friend who says the boss will find a solution is already acknowledging that people are being dismissed. Is he really going to get them back with just a couple of sweet words? Who outside of court gives the rights of those who have worked hard?
