I usually buy pads from the grocery store during my period and I don’t like to talk about it with anyone. When I went there last night, the young guy at the register seemed to recognize me and said, ‘Pads again?’ At that moment, my hands literally went cold, and I didn’t know how to respond. Do you think this is normal or am I being overly sensitive? I’m hesitant to go back to the same place.
I think the cashier tried to do something nice but really messed it up. It’s a private matter after all, and it’s not their place to bring up things like that. You’re not overly sensitive or anything; that’s just pretty disrespectful ![]()
So, has he made such a strange comment to you before? Is this the first time he has made such a statement? I’m curious ![]()
@gizemruya actually something like this happened before, last week they were looking at the products at the checkout and said ‘we’re checking, sister, what is needed.’ But I didn’t interpret it negatively back then.
It could be. I mean, maybe they just made a joke that wasn’t that deep? I think you’re blowing it out of proportion. People sometimes talk unnecessarily, just let it go.
@mertgral I disagree because there are privacy boundaries. Comments like this can especially make women uncomfortable. Employees should clearly define their boundaries with customers; it’s a professional matter. ![]()
@bilgetavsiyeci yes, you are right, but on the other hand, why didn’t the person who asked respond? I thought it would have been better if they clearly expressed their discomfort at that moment instead of moving from one point to another.
I’ve experienced something similar at a store once, but I was with a family member. My mom really lashed out because the cashier said something inappropriate. I wish you had defended yourself in that moment. Honestly, they wouldn’t have done it again.
