The boss laughed after looking at my friend's file

Last week, my boss asked me and a coworker to prepare a report on the same topic. We both worked hard, but mine was a bit late because I wanted everything to be perfect. My friend submitted theirs faster. When the boss looked at their report, they said something and laughed. When they got to mine, there was no reaction, they just nodded. Do you think this is an unnecessary demotivator, or am I just being overly sensitive?
