Is eating healthy expensive or just an excuse?

Everyone says to eat healthy, but when I go to a grocery store, vegetables are almost the price of meat. Is there no middle ground for something that is both economical and healthy? Or is it just me, is it possible to do this without spending a lot of money?

I don’t think healthy food is that expensive. I’m in university, living in a dorm, and for example, I buy broccoli and vegetables from the market for really cheap. I just boil them and squeeze lemon on top. Don’t even look for meat; protein comes from lentils and chickpea water too. It just takes a bit of creativity.

Honestly, I think there’s a situation like this: you’re probably looking too much at the labels. But actually, not everything that’s labeled healthy is always expensive. You can buy things like potatoes, eggs, and yogurt, and make quite reasonable meals. Maybe you could consider stopping by the market instead of the supermarket.

So we need to think about this as well. Healthy eating doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive, but if you insist on going and buying everything organic without eating any processed foods, then of course the costs will go up. While aiming for both economical and healthy, I think you should either take a look at that list or adjust your expectations a bit.

Planning is an important step for economical and healthy meals. By shopping weekly, you can prefer seasonal vegetables, which are often more affordable. There are also suitable alternatives for protein, such as eggs and legumes. If you pay attention to cooking methods, a lot of health issues are already addressed.

Update: I tried going to the market once, and it’s definitely cheaper than the supermarket. But it still feels like I have to make such a big effort every week. I guess it’ll settle down with time. Is there anyone who’s already figured out their style? If you give me an example, I can try it out.

Girl, now this is a bit in your hands. A person can’t expect to be both healthy and not put in any effort at all. Plus, you say you want to spend less money, but you want everything. Honestly, if you stop focusing on how expensive things are and learn to plan, I think you won’t struggle too much :grimacing:
