She ate the chocolate I saved overnight and talked about it at breakfast

Last night, I had a little snack craving and hid the chocolate in the cupboard, thinking I'd eat it in the morning. But when I sat down for breakfast, my partner said, 'Your chocolate was really nice.' So they got up at night and ate it. They didn't even show any regret, just said, 'Come on, I just had one.' But I got annoyed because I had literally hidden it. Do you think I am overreacting, or is this a boundary?

I think you should think a bit too. If you were hiding it and it's so important, why don't you tell your partner? If you said, 'I saved it for the morning, don't touch it,' maybe they would have understood. Plus, it's food after all; why are we making such a big deal out of one person eating a chocolate?

I swear I can't hurt my loved one, if they eat, I just say enjoy it. But of course, I understand that this is a matter of limits. What really bothers me is that they don't show any remorse. Shouldn't a person say 'sorry'? They should value you.

But I will ask something, is this the first time they did this? If they have acted in this 'I got it, what will happen' mode before, it turns into a character issue. I mean, if the same thing happens continuously, it becomes boring.

@zevk_goreceli it wasn't the first time, for example, once he had eaten my ice cream, but I didn't push it too much then. I mean, there’s always this attitude of 'I’ll eat it, you can just get another one.'

So why are you being quiet then, if they keep doing this? When you don’t set your boundaries from the start, people get used to it. They’ve eaten chocolate, they’ve had ice cream, tomorrow it’ll be something else. I think either talk about it or don’t listen to them when they say 'don’t hide' 🫣

Things like this may seem like 'small issues' but they could indicate a communication difficulty. Even if it's about food, the behavior of 'taking what's yours and feeling entitled to it' can turn into a boundary violation. Consider your approach to your partner; if you don't clarify this boundary, it may bother you more in the future.

@skeptik_hesapci but these are the sweet things in a relationship. Interpreting every action as a "boundary" can be exhausting. They just had some chocolate, it can be solved with a conversation 🙄
