I used a tampon and my mom went crazy, am I wrong?

I used a tampon for the first time now because it feels more comfortable when I’m exercising. When my mom noticed, she went off saying, ‘What are you doing, aren’t we going to talk about this at home?’ According to her, you should never use anything other than pads. But I mean, I’ve grown up, don’t I have the right to manage my own personal matters?

I experienced the same thing. I started using tampons in college; there was no other option during my swimming lessons. My mom initially went crazy about it, but then I went to a gynecologist, and when the doctor said it was no different from a pad, my mom calmed down a bit.

I think you should see a gynecologist and learn the tips for using tampons safely. Then you can gently explain what the doctor said to your mom. Maybe that will convince her.

Let’s be honest, your mom has a point too. After all, this is a private matter; you can’t just go ahead and say, ‘take it and use it’ as you please. Wouldn’t it have been better to talk about it together? Ignoring the reaction completely isn’t right either.

Actually, there is no health issue with using tampons, but improper use can lead to infection. Especially if they are not changed for a long time, serious conditions like toxic shock syndrome can occur. So, it’s essential to be informed and use them consciously.

Let me add this: My mom said, ‘If you use this, you will get hurt in the future.’ I think she still believes that the tampon is harmful, but she didn’t explain why she thinks that. I’m trying to explain myself, but she seems unwilling to understand

I think there is some truth in what your mother said. If it were heard in the neighborhood, they would say, ‘your daughter has become disrespectful.’ When you do something, you need to consult your family first. You did it without discussing it, so it’s normal for your mother to react this way.

Well, I’ve been curious, why does your mother only see the pad as appropriate? Have you sat down and discussed this openly with her before? I mean, is this her first reaction or has she always had this kind of thought?
