Not wanting marriage after a three-year relationship

We've been together for three years; everything is actually going really well, but whenever the topic of marriage comes up, he immediately changes the subject or says he's just not ready yet. I'm also getting older, and honestly, I'm really tired of waiting in this uncertainty. I love him a lot, but it doesn't seem sensible to continue without seeing any future together. Should I break up?

I went through the same thing; the threads came undone in my fourth year because the guy who says he isn't ready actually doesn't want to marry you. I swear I broke up, and two months later he got engaged to someone else, so I would say don’t waste your time waiting in uncertainty.

Have your families never met in the three years you've been together, or have you not discussed an engagement or anything like that? When they say they're not ready, what exactly do they mean? Do they have financial difficulties, or are they just trying to avoid responsibility?
