Did my friend think the dress I bought for a special day was too extravagant, is she right?

I bought a really nice dress with my own money that I will wear at the wedding. But my brother said the dress is too revealing and that people will judge us. My mom is quiet, my dad doesn’t care, but my brother is literally trying to stop me from wearing it. Honestly, I want to wear something that makes me feel beautiful. What would you do—argue about it or just forget and wear it?

My brother did a similar thing at the engagement party; he made a comment because my arms were exposed. I wore it, and nothing happened. I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of an outfit they only see for an hour or two.

Actually, what you're experiencing is very familiar. On big days like weddings, everyone in the family suddenly worries about 'what will they say?' But to be honest, in the end, everyone just looks out for their own fun 🥲

But there’s something to consider here, opposing your brother outright is also problematic. Maybe the dress doesn’t look as innocent as you think. Have you considered asking others if it’s too revealing?

They may be acting out of a protective instinct towards you. Additionally, if a person feels comfortable in the clothes they chose to wear, it creates a confident stance. But to avoid prolonging this conflict, it would be helpful to discuss in detail why you found it so revealing.

Let me update you: The dress is long but has a slit, and the shoulders are also uncovered. I don't think it's too extravagant, plus the wedding venue is quite modern. I spoke to my brother again, but his attitude is still the same.

There’s nothing more natural than wanting to wear an outfit you bought with your own money that you think suits your body. Instead of monitoring you, your brother should learn to respect your choices 🤷‍♀️

I think the issue might not just be about the clothes; there could be some jealousy from your brother. Or if a similar incident happened in the family in the past, it might be affecting the situation — if you look into that, you'll understand better 🙂

Honey, after all, everyone's eyes will be on the bride at the wedding; only a few people will look at you. But your brothers tend to worry too much about such things because they always think of something to say. Try wearing a shawl over it, then you can take it off later.

Sometimes older brothers can be ridiculously possessive, you know? Similar things have happened in our circle; usually, the girls wore what they wanted, and later the older brothers fell silent. If you're confident, just wear it, I think.
