Is it risky to use tampons during your period?

Girls, I’ve always been a pad user, but recently I've been thinking about trying tampons. They might be more comfortable, but I'm worried about the risk of infection. Is there anyone here who uses them regularly or has tried them? Do you think it's okay to start without consulting a doctor?

I've been using tampons for 3 years, and I haven't had any infections or anything, but you really need to pay attention to hygiene. You should change them every 4-6 hours; otherwise, it can get complicated. It might feel a bit weird at first, but you get used to it.

Honestly, I tried it once but it didn't sit right with me, I feel more comfortable with pads. I struggled a bit while putting in and taking out the tampon, I think it's a bit difficult for someone without practice 🫠

I think this tampon thing is being exaggerated. I heard in the neighborhood that a woman got an infection and almost had to go to the hospital. Why take the risk when there's a pad?

There may be an infection risk, but it's low if used properly. There's a syndrome called TSS, which is very rare, but keeping the tampon inside for too long can trigger it. If you're trying it for the first time, it’s a good idea to consult your doctor.

Thanks for the comments, girls. Another friend suggested yesterday to use a pad in the first days and then a tampon on lighter days. I'm still a bit indecisive, but I think I'll give it a try. Is it easy to take out, though? Does it hurt?

I think your fear comes from what you've heard from outside. They might be talking around the neighborhood like, "he used that bumper, bad things happened." Have you been influenced by something else? 😅

I was scared at first too, but as I read more, I realized that most of the risks are related to hygiene. During your period, you're already prone to infections, so it’s very important to wash your hands and pay attention to the changing times. The difference in comfort is significant.

A while ago, a friend of mine said about tampons, 'My girlfriend uses them too, she says they're very comfortable, but I don’t get what that's all about.' It seems to me that women have a better understanding of the usage part because it looks very complicated from the outside.
