The salary question in the family group is sticking to me

The wedding is two months away. My aunt asked what my fiancé's salary was as if she was joking around with the family. At that moment, everyone fell silent, no one answered, but my fiancé got upset. I also felt very tense because we were both embarrassed, and I feel like my fiancé has distanced himself from me. Should I talk about this, or should I ignore it and focus on the wedding?

That's pretty strange. Why is he asking about salary when you have a fiancé? 🫠

so sorry, but why did you stay silent at that moment? Did the situation arise when your fiancé reacted?

we had the same thing happen too, before the wedding, a relative made fun of my fiancé through my profession. I shut them down right there.

@soncaykaldi I was quiet because I didn't want the atmosphere to be tense, after all, my mom is also in the group 😅

So, did you tell your aunt something later? Did you talk about this with your fiancé?

It's a sensitive topic to interrupt your family. You need to calmly tell your aunt that such things are inappropriate, or else it will continue. Your fiancé is right too; if she's clearly apologizing, it might help cool things down.

@benbisorayim so are you really going to throw shade at your aunt openly? then there will be chaos at home. no matter how calm you try to be, it's family stuff 😳

I think it would be beneficial for you to speak. You're already saying that your fiancée has distanced herself, and if you stay silent, it will get worse.

I don't understand why everyone is getting worked up about this event being called a wedding. What difference does it make if they knew the salary? Are they stuck on what they know about the salary? It's just pointless stuff 😅
