My photo with my girlfriend discussed in the family WhatsApp group

My cousin found a photo of me with my ex and showed it to my aunt. After seeing the photo, my aunt started hinting at something in the family WhatsApp group. My mom was there too, and there was a huge silence. The photo is from years ago, but it has nothing to do with my current girlfriend, whom I’m considering marrying. How can I handle this situation? I’m afraid it will ruin my relationship with both my girlfriend and my family.

I think the solution to this issue requires a bit of effort. You need to sit down properly and explain things to both your partner and your family. To your partner, you can say, 'this photo is old, you have a special place in my life,' and to your family, you calmly explain the situation, and that's it. If you don't leave any doubt in people's minds, there will be no problem.

Well, why did you get so tense over a photo? Can't you show your affection to your girlfriend in front of your family? I think your stance is important in times like these 😅

@kadir_kiymetci Honestly, I always hesitate to explain past situations to my girlfriend because I'm afraid it might ruin things. It kind of annoyed me that your family made such a direct implication; I was worried it would go straight to my girlfriend 😅

@mesafe_emekci Sorry, but why is this explanation always expected from women? If your partner doesn’t trust you, it’s not your job to earn that trust. As for your family, they shouldn’t start ambiguous conversations in a group like this by disrespecting your private life. I think you should hold them accountable first.

These things should not be discussed within the family or shared publicly. Not everything should be written in the family WhatsApp group. But if it has turned out this way, there's nothing to be done; just calmly explain things so your partner won't be upset. Lies only make things worse, so be clear but don't lose respect.

@feminist just stop already. The matter of family is solved within a framework of respect. It doesn't work this way with constantly saying 'don’t hold me accountable.' Sometimes we get confused about what is private and what is public. Maybe there's a misunderstanding in this situation?
