I have an irregular menstrual cycle, and it has become completely irregular for the past few months. My mom keeps wanting me to go see a doctor, but I’m anxious about the gynecologist exams. I’m both embarrassed and afraid of hearing something bad. My mom says, “If nothing’s wrong, you’ll feel relieved,” but I feel like I’m forcing myself into the room. Is there anyone else in the same situation? How can I overcome this fear?
So you’re saying you have irregular periods, but you’re refusing to see a doctor? Sorry, but you can’t live in fear like this. What will you do if something really serious comes up?
I was scared to go for years too. In the end, nothing happened when I went, it was simply resolved with a hormone test. You’re just overthinking it.
How old are you, by the way? And what do you mean by disorder, is it completely cut off? It’s hard to say anything without knowing this.
@uyumuyormus I’m 23 years old, it doesn’t completely stop, the gaps between them are very long and once it lasted for 2 weeks. My mom totally panicked.
How many months have you been the same? There are people who run to the doctor just because their period got messed up for a month or two. Sometimes stress affects it, you know.
You are right, embarrassment and anxiety are common issues. However, if there has been irregularity for such a long time, it’s advisable to have a hormone test or an ultrasound. Gynecologists are very familiar with these situations and it generally tends to be relieving.
@garipisler stress and all that does have an effect, but a two-week period is definitely not normal. It’s not right to just write “there’s no need” here ![]()
I don’t understand why you write such things on the internet. Your mother is right, just go to the doctor and be done with it.
I was really nervous at my first appointment too, but I relaxed when the doctor turned out to be so friendly. Maybe you’d prefer a female gynecologist, you’d feel better.
