Is my mom wrong for wanting me to wash my face with soap?

I’m feeling confused. I’ve been paying a lot of attention to skincare for a few months now; I’m using niacinamide serum and all. But my mom keeps saying, ‘In our time, we just washed with soap; you’re overdoing it.’ I notice a good change in my own skin, but what she says is bothering me. Do you think I’m on the right track, or should I listen to my mom?

Washing with soap can really dry out the skin barrier, you know? I used to wash with soap just like my mom, but then my skin started to flake. I think you should keep using niacinamide serum or something; you’ve probably noticed that it helps.

What your mom said might have been true back then, but now there are very special products. I insisted that we used to never apply creams or anything like that, and then the dermatologist said, “your skin has gotten this way because of soap.” I think you’re on the right track for your skin.

But on the other hand, your mom might be right, she grew up with natural methods. You’re using so many products, what will happen if your skin gets used to this in ten years? What moms say can be true sometimes, I think you should think about it

Well, the thing you call soap usually has a pH that isn’t very suitable for the skin. When you disrupt the skin barrier, it can become sensitive or lead to acne. However, if the products you use are too aggressive, they can also be harmful in the long run. It’s better to consult a specialist.

Let me also add that my mom doesn’t actually say these things with bad intentions. She says to me, ‘Your face looks nice, but it could be fine with just a soap too.’ So I don’t get upset with her, but it just confuses me even more :woman_facepalming:

There was a time when I was also clashing with my mom like that. Every morning when I looked in the mirror, I would say ‘oh, my skin is getting better’, but she was still insisting, ‘go back to using soap’. Her generation thinks differently; you don’t have to conform to their habits.

I was amazed by the mother’s motivation! We also had a crisis because we ran out of soap in the bathroom. Plus, I show my mom skincare routines on Instagram, and she says, ‘everyone has gone mad.’ Just relax :joy:

I think your mom is actually fixated on something else, not skin care. Maybe she thinks you’re spending too much money on new expenses, or she’s bothered about how much time you’re spending. So it’s not about the soap.

I swear our mothers are right. When we were growing up, there weren’t this many product varieties, and yet our skin was just fine. Is soap that bad, friends? The old times were always better; the new generation blows everything out of proportion, in my opinion. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:
