Recently, something I heard from a friend made me think a lot. They have issues in their relationship, but they both share posts on social media as if everything is fine. Does everyone really need to know everything about everyone in this day and age? Or should it remain completely private? What do you think?
There was a time when my spouse and I were going through tough times, but from the outside, we looked very happy. It seems like people on social media want to send the message "everything is fine" to others. But inwardly, this situation wears a person down even more. That's why being open about it or not sharing at all is the best.
On social media, these types of couple posts usually stem from a strong need to "maintain one's image." No one wants to show their friends or family that things are going badly. I believe this is a defense mechanism. However, in the long run, this situation may create a coldness in couple communication because real problems are being swept under the rug.
What I don't understand is this: okay, posting a lot on social media can be exhausting, but you say your friend's relationship has problems. So why is that person telling you? I mean, the issue isn't social media; people should learn to communicate with each other first, I think. Otherwise, no matter how little you appear, the problem doesn't change.
By the way, my friend described it like this once; it's not a topic that comes up all the time. He didn’t directly say he had problems, but let’s say he hinted at it. I was really thinking about this 'pretending to be happy' thing. Is everyone really doing that?
I can't say everyone, but honestly most people are like this. You might be caring too much. Social media is just like a showcase; no one has to show what's behind the showcase. Keeping the private things private is the healthiest way, what's important is to solve those issues internally.
