Face mask or serum? Which is more effective?

I’m trying to establish my own skincare routine, but everyone says something different. Some say masks have a temporary effect, while others say serums can damage the skin. Which is right? Is one really better than the other, or is it essential? How do you do it, and if you have suggestions, that would be really helpful.

I used to be just like you, relying on masks and avoiding serums for a while. I was constantly making clay masks, and my skin was literally thriving, but after 3-5 days, it would go back to its old state. Then I tried a hyaluronic acid serum, and I noticed that with regular use, it turned out to be the serum that really worked in the long run. So, a mask and a serum are two different things; one saves the day, while the other is for the long term.

What kind of logic is this? Are you going to believe your friend who says serum is unnecessary? Is there a moisture barrier on the skin or insulation, make a decision. Everyone is already saying that the mask is temporary; it’s quite obvious. The barrier is supported by serum, while the mask only provides immediate effects. Don’t believe contradictory information.

Masks usually have superficial effects; you can think of them as temporary firming agents. On the other hand, serums have a high concentration of active ingredients, so they penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. However, not all serums are good; the formulation is crucial. For instance, serums that contain a lot of alcohol can cause irritation on some skin types. Whatever you choose, you need to get products suitable for your skin type.

After what I’ve written now, I’ve realized that what really confuses me is whether the serum is effective in the long term. Because there are both regular usage recommendations and things I’ve heard that seem like they clog pores. I’m particularly open to suggestions for sensitive skin.

There’s always this debate in my friend group too, those who say serum generally watch influencers, while the mask crowd prefers the effect of opening and closing the pores. I think you should get them based on their function. For example, I use a niacinamide serum for my pores, but I also do a clay mask once a week. The two go really well together, why must it be one or the other?

Friends, you don’t need to be a scientist to understand whether the serum is effective in the long run; just reading the product description is enough. Did those who say it clogs pores ever try to buy one suitable for their skin type? Why create so many rumors? Just because you heard something negative doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad. Test it for yourself.
