My uncle is nosing into my life, how can I set boundaries?

My uncle saw a photo of me with my girlfriend recently, and all the relatives practically gathered around. They pressured me by saying, 'Things like this shouldn't be shared, it's shameful' and so on. I'm 27 years old, but they still interfere in my private life. How can I set them straight in a situation like this?

Even if you tell your uncle, "I'm an adult now" or something, they won't easily understand. They think they have the right to discuss what we share on social media. But just say clearly: "This is my life, I won't let you discuss my privacy." Be firm but don't engage in disputes 🫣

Let me tell you something. It's really not worth discussing this further. What are they gonna do, ostracize you over a photo? The more you make a big deal out of it, the more they'll talk. Just don’t let it get to you 🤷‍♀️

But I really need to ask. What was this photo you mentioned like? Were just your faces visible, or was there something that would trigger their 'extreme' perception? Because it seemed strange for them to blow it up like that.

It's quite common for families to be intrusive in our society. Instilling awareness about boundaries of love in them is a bit challenging. However, if you stand firm by saying, 'I don't want to talk about my private life,' your boundaries will be set. Don't make constant explanations; just say it once.

Let me give you some detail; the photo was completely normal, we were just holding hands. But it seems my uncle is still living in the past. He keeps saying, 'If only young people weren't so relaxed.' I'm tired of it.

It seems to me that the issue here isn't just the photo; they might be bothered by something else related to your girlfriend. Maybe it's her clothes, her behavior, or something they've heard before... Are you sure it's all because of one photo? 😳

Look, I don't understand this. If they are the family that raised you and brought you to this age, isn't it a bit strange that they want you to show some sensitivity? Whether it's right or wrong, everyone has their limits. So instead of taking this as an 'interference', you should think that they care.

This isn't just about a photo. It's become so normalized for men in the family to try to exert dominance over women's lives and choices. You can express that you are uncomfortable, but they can't interfere. This is an invasion of privacy 🫠
