I'm on a diet, but I'm emptying the fridge at 2 AM?

Yeah girls, in the morning I tell myself, 'I'm going to eat healthy today,' and I'm doing pretty well all day, but at night I turn into a complete monster. Why does this happen? Do you think it's psychological or just a habit? I can't seem to control myself. Is there a way to overcome this? Those with experience, please share.

I had the same situation. During the day, I stick to my diet really well, I don't skip meals or anything, but at night, I eat whatever's in the fridge. It turns out I was consuming too few carbohydrates. My dietitian provided a more balanced meal plan, and my late-night snacking has decreased. Maybe you should check your carbohydrate balance too.

There could be two main reasons for this situation. The first is that your calorie intake during the day is insufficient, which triggers your body to signal hunger at night. The second is that if you feel more vulnerable emotionally at night, your brain might send you signals to "find comfort through food." I would recommend considering a consultation with a dietitian and, if available, a psychologist to address any emotional burdens.

You can make it harder to reach that cupboard to avoid emptying it at night. For example, lock it with a key or completely remove unhealthy snacks. Also, if you eat something protein-heavy that keeps you fuller towards the evening, your nighttime cravings might decrease.

Actually, I think it's all about willpower. Before linking it to psychology or anything, you should try to gain some control over yourself. In the morning, you say, 'I'm going to eat healthy today,' but by nighttime, you completely forget that. How reasonable is it to struggle all day and end up giving up?

Thank you for the feedback. I should also add that I don't actually feel hungry during the day; my meals are satisfying. But this craving comes just before I go to sleep at night. I try to stop myself, but it doesn't work. The problem is likely with what I eat in the evening or my emotional side.
