Do toxic love stories in TV shows affect us?

Recently, the love stories in the series I've watched always have a "you're mine" vibe. Obsessions, jealousy, excessive romance... Can we really tolerate such a relationship in real life? Or is it only beautiful on screen? But it seems like these kinds of stories are creating a "normalization" among us too, what do you think?

This toxic romance in series is literally giving me a nervous breakdown. In real life, the moment that guy who says 'you belong to me' comes next to us, we would all shout 'sicko.' It's that screen magic; it seems appealing there, but in real life, we disgust.

My friend said the other day, 'Sis, wouldn't you be happy if someone was jealous of you like that?' I mean, seriously, it's like a joke... I always laugh while watching those shows; is that really how relationships are? It's got nothing to do with reality.

I think you’re exaggerating. Sure, some series have extremes, but ultimately it's fiction. We all know that someone who behaves like that in real life is showing signs of a problem. I’d say let's not take everything we watch so seriously.

But if you feel affected by these series, take a little break and explore different genres. There are series about psychology and awareness, for example, it could be like 'therapy.' Even documentaries can be good for you.

but the screenwriters who write these things might be thinking like this as well. Always the same different things. I think society is still influenced by this 'macho man' model and it's selling. Anyway, no one here is innocent 🤷‍♀️

Friends, you don't actually want to watch it, but when there are so many people around you asking "Have you watched that show?", you end up going along with the trend a bit. You know, we make comments about the characters in the show and get caught up in it, but it still feels weird.

There are friends around me who ask if this jealousy and possessiveness is normal and get worried about it. For instance, my opinion is that if a person makes you uncomfortable in a relationship, that's where you should stop. They shouldn't mix things up with TV shows and such.

Now there is a situation from the men's perspective: Some seriously take these romantics as a model for themselves, thinking 'this is how women are affected,' but from what I've seen around me, it usually backfires. The issue is being misunderstood.

It is true that there is a media effect that romanticizes these toxic behaviors. But life does not repeat a script exactly. Excessively jealous or possessive forms of relationships can lead to trauma. While watching the screen, one must understand that it's not real. Therapy is definitely helpful in such matters.
