The overwhelming feeling of fear as birth approaches

I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and I can honestly say that I've been having panic attacks for the last few days. It will be my first baby, but I'm losing sleep at night because of the difficult birth stories I've heard around me, and I really feel like I might not be able to do it at all. I don't know whether to opt for a cesarean or try for a natural birth; to be honest, I'm really scared. Please give me some advice on how to overcome this fear.

The insomnia from week 36 combined with that panic turns those horrifying birth stories you hear at midnight into a movie reel playing before your eyes, seriously. That feeling of thinking I won’t be able to do it also hit me in the last month with a jolt that kept waking me up.

I think you should talk to your doctor right away and ask about epidural for normal birth, because it really reduces the fear of pain to almost zero. The uncertainty already freaks you out, so you should directly ask about your birth plan and have a preliminary meeting with the hospital.
