One month before her wedding, her ex-boyfriend filed for alimony

A friend of mine, whom I know well, is engaged and has just one month left until the wedding. Recently, his ex-girlfriend came forward and filed a lawsuit, requesting alimony. I don’t know exactly what kind of relationship they had in the past, but this request has completely shocked everyone. Will the wedding be canceled, or how can this situation be explained to his fiancée? What do you think will happen in the end?

I think this would be a big shock before the wedding. If your friend doesn't talk to their fiancé about this properly, they could really complicate things. I also suggest you look into the alimony issue; is there usually such a thing between ex-lovers? I've never heard of it, to be honest.

So, have they completely ended their relationship with the ex, or do they still have some communication? They need to figure this out for sure before their fiancée finds out, otherwise, things could get very unpleasant.

@lale_çiçeği didn't have a relationship that I know of, but her ex-boyfriend has been messaging her from time to time to talk about old times. My friend didn't really care much about it, but then suddenly this event happened.

@elif35 I think you're mistaken, alimony is only taken from ex-spouses. In the case of a girlfriend, that wouldn't happen; I believe this woman is being opportunistic. They're trying to overshadow the wedding so that she doesn't get any money 😅

Any request for alimony requires the parties to have a legal bond, such as marriage. When you are in a romantic relationship, such a bond does not form, and in this case, it is essential that they consult a lawyer in a very logical manner. I don't know if their wedding will be canceled or not, but it seems like there is no serious basis for that.

I didn't understand why someone continued messaging their ex before the engagement. How will your friend explain this to their fiancé? If it were me, I would have definitely distanced myself. It feels like we're missing something, but...

Today's youth have very superficial relationships. What does it mean to leave a door open for an ex? In the past, everyone knew their limits, and such things didn't happen around wedding time. I think both sides should think this through carefully 😅
