I eat emotionally, how do you cope?

Lately, whenever I'm feeling down, I rush to the kitchen, and my hand always reaches for something sweet. To be honest, this makes me feel even worse because on one hand, I'm gaining weight, and on the other, I'm upset with myself. It has become a vicious cycle. Have you ever experienced something like this? Or how have you managed to maintain self-control?

I experience this too, especially during exam weeks. My friends are constantly ordering sweets from outside, and before I know it, I've dipped my spoon in too. Then regret hits, but it's too late.

I've been really stressed lately, and I've noticed that I keep reaching for chocolate. I start with a slice in the morning, and by evening, I realize I've finished the whole package without even noticing. Honestly, sometimes we can't think about anything else but stress.

But does the bad feeling go away when you quit sweets? Because usually that guilt feeling seems to weigh heavier. So, sweets tend to be like an excuse. Have you ever tried to deal with stress in other ways? 😬

Emotional eating is referred to as "comfort food," generally providing a quick boost in serotonin. However, in the long run, it usually makes you feel worse. You might try filling your time with small exercises or another hobby.

I think it also depends on what kind of dessert I choose. For example, when I eat chocolate, I feel like I fall into a mood faster. But with milk-based desserts or lighter things, I don't feel as guilty when I leave them behind. I guess this is really related to stress.

It seemed to me that the issue is related to something much different than just gaining weight. Maybe there's another problem in your life, but since eating sweets is a more visible issue, you're focusing on that? Emotions always get hidden like this 😬
