I made eye contact with my neighbor while getting a test at the pharmacy, and I was embarrassed

Last evening, I was buying a pregnancy test from the pharmacy, or rather I was about to, when I made eye contact with a neighbor lady I know from the neighborhood. I completely froze, and she carefully looked at the bag and just walked past. Honestly, I’m terrified she’ll tell my mom or someone else. I’m already in a stressful waiting period, and now there’s neighborhood pressure too. Do you think this woman will immediately tell my mom? It seemed that way to me, but not everyone is a gossip, right?

The same thing happened to me, I swear. Last year, while I was getting tested, I saw my downstairs neighbor’s daughter-in-law at the pharmacy. She didn’t look at my bag, but I could tell from her facial expression that she picked up something. Thankfully, the result came back negative, and I felt relieved then. But later, she gossiped behind my back, and my mom heard. Believe me, people can be really ruthless. If your neighbor is a gossiper, you’re in for a tough time; I think you should be careful.

I find it strange that she was looking carefully at the bag. Didn’t you say anything, instead of just turning your head and ignoring it? You made it pretty obvious, like it was an alarm situation :grimacing:

@zehirlikalem yeah, totally, I was shocked for real. We ran into each other when I least expected it. If I say something, it might get worse, I don’t know. Women are just too curious

@yasemin35 I think it’s unnecessary for women to approach other women with such ill intent. Maybe she didn’t pay attention, not everyone is a gossip right away. Maybe it has happened to her, maybe she has shown empathy. We should stop the habit of putting down women through these neighbors :joy:

Hello, purchases made at the pharmacy or anywhere else are completely private. Pharmacies are already required to work on confidentiality. It would be unethical for your neighbor to do such a thing; moreover, no one has the right to spread your private information. If you’re worried, you can initiate a conversation with your neighbor from the right side, like, “We met at the pharmacy, but please keep it confidential.” It takes courage, but it can ease your mind.

Why did you get so stressed that your test came back positive? I mean, these things happen, after all people can take tests and so on. Why would it spread without even knowing why you took it?

@eczanekizi you are right, but the concept of ethics doesn’t really work in the neighborhoods. Especially if you have certain types of neighbors, it’s all in vain no matter what we say. People will always talk. There’s nothing we can do, we will have to learn to ignore it inevitably.

You’ve blown it out of proportion. You’ve got it, you’ve got it, it’s in the past. I don’t think anyone tells your mom about it; she might not even remember that moment in her life right now. You’re just ruining yourself for nothing :joy:
