My best friend wants my card, I'm unsure

A close friend I grew up with has exceeded their credit card limit and asked for permission to use my card for a while. They say, 'I will just pay my bills,' but honestly, I'm worried. After all, it's in my name, and if they can't pay the debt, things could get complicated. I trust them, but I'm unsure if I should set boundaries when it comes to financial matters.

Asking for a credit card is such a weird thing, you know? There's something else here, it seems like if it's going to be that much of a big deal, you could just open an additional account for yourself.

I don't think it will work 😬

How much did it actually exceed the limit that it came to the point of asking you for a card? Is it a constant situation?

Why is the possibility of being a burden under your name constantly not considered? They just say bills, but how will you know?

@camkenari actually does it every now and then, but this is the first time it was so openly requested. We haven't talked about something like this before 😂

@bugun_degil I think you’re wrong, the details are clear when it comes to the bill. But if it’s your childhood friend, it’s also hard to just say no outright.

There is already a situation where banks technically prohibit the use of a credit card by someone else. If they can't pay, you will be directly responsible.

but these things can be very risky. I had guaranteed a loan for a friend years ago, then things got complicated. The debt was paid, but our relationship never returned to what it was. Debts may end, but the distrust remains, really think it through.

You might be very close with him, but financial boundaries are a completely different area. How did he influence you enough to give him your card? Have you considered the possibility that this could have become a habit?
