I'm dealing with someone who is stealing my best friend's tweets

Since I met the girl, I couldn’t take my eyes off her, but I couldn’t say anything directly. Now I’ve realized that she has literally stolen my best friend’s funny tweets and shared them on her own account, and she’s gotten quite a bit of engagement. Do you think I should step in and say, ‘this is wrong,’ or should I stay quiet until my friend notices it himself? It’s extremely frustrating.

Someone had actually stolen and shared one of my close friend’s memes. My friend didn’t really pay much attention to it, but I couldn’t resist and directly messaged the girl. She didn’t say anything, and then when we noticed, she had deleted the tweets. Don’t hesitate, I think you should talk to her.

The same thing happened in our class. Some kid was becoming popular with funny tweets, but it turned out he was stealing what his sister had written. When his sister noticed, she caused a huge scene, and the kid couldn’t write anymore. In the end, this stuff causes trouble for those who steal.

I think I would tell my friend right away. Show them a screenshot and say, ‘Look, this person has stolen your tweets.’ If they want to talk, they can, or you can offer support. But if you stay silent, this person will get more encouraged.

I don’t know. It might not be something worth blowing out of proportion. It’s a funny tweet after all, everyone gets inspired from somewhere. Maybe the girl hasn’t seen it and thought the same thing. It might be wrong to blame her directly.

This is actually an unethical situation in the context of content rights. Written content requires permission to be directly taken and shared. Dealing with legal avenues can be difficult, but at the very least, it would be right to express this socially.

After all these comments, let me give an update: I just talked to my friend, and he didn’t know his tweets were stolen. I showed him the screenshot, he got really angry but doesn’t want to cause a scene. I’m still very angry; she shouldn’t get away with this

No, I mean, can a person steal someone else’s work? My girl, I think you should definitely tell your friend about this. Even if she doesn’t, you should write to the other side. No one’s effort should go to waste :grimacing:

There’s something else going on here. Is just stealing tweets the issue? Maybe your friend argued with that person and did it out of revenge. Why would they target someone out of the blue? :smiling_face_with_tear:

Still, it’s not necessary to react so strongly. If your friend isn’t reacting directly, maybe they really don’t care that much. But if something needs to be done, you can send a quiet DM to show your courage.
