My spouse wants children but doesn't consider our financial situation

My spouse has been constantly bringing up the idea of having children lately. I know they truly want it, but we are going through a very tough economic period right now. I've tried to tell them that this isn't the right time, but they say, "Everything will work out; what's important is the intention." Okay, it's nice to think romantically, but life doesn't work that way. Girls, how do you think I should handle this situation? Are they right, or are they being a bit of a dreamer?

I experienced this with my spouse too. They always said 'it’s not the right time,' while I wanted it. To be honest, timing is very important. We waited, they made a job change, and after that, we both became open to the idea of having a child. Maybe you could suggest making a bit of a clearer plan?

I swear, I think you’re exaggerating a bit. Wanting a child is a natural thing; your spouse can’t pressure you for something like this for a lifetime. But the saying 'everything will somehow work out' isn’t that easy either, of course. Both sides need to take a step back a little 🙄

But this economic situation-child issue is very critical. I mean, when the income level drops, the roles in some families can start to conflict. Before having children, it is necessary to be prepared not only economically but also psychologically. It may be helpful to talk to a couples therapist about this.

Let me add this, my spouse says, 'Our elders also raised children under very difficult conditions, we can do it too.' But is it the same now as it was before? The system has changed, I don't know, even the cost of education has skyrocketed 😅

So, has your partner proposed any ideas on how they will handle the childcare and expenses? For instance, are they considering taking on extra work? Because the saying "everything works out somehow" seems a bit empty; have they thought about it in detail at all? 🤔

Well, actually not everyone is born rich, but isn't a child a reason for abundance? You know, the old saying goes, "a child comes with their fortune" and such. Do you not believe in this at all? I think you should trust fate a little 🙄

We went through a similar process; my spouse always wanted it, but our means were limited. During that time, we made a savings plan and had a child three years later. It really saved our lives. I think it's important to draw a clear path; otherwise, this will just turn into constant arguments.
