My former boss made me sign a promissory note

When I left my job, the boss had all the staff sign a promissory note. He said it was to ensure we wouldn't have any issues upon leaving. Now I'm working somewhere else, but this note is bothering me. Is it possible to cancel it or could it cause me legal trouble, do you think?

The patron might have done this to avoid any issues upon leaving work, but the content of the deed is very important. If there's an open amount written, it's risky. You should perhaps have a lawyer look at it, to prevent any problems in the future.

Such a thing happened at my old workplace too. But the document only stated "left the workplace on this date, there are no debts or credits." Was the document completely filled out or was it blank?

But I have to say something, why didn't you question the content before signing? I mean, since it's bothering you, why didn't you just ask at that moment? Why are you worried now? It feels a bit like your fault too.

A promissory note is a serious document. If he made you sign a blank promissory note, it can be misused in the future. If it clearly states the debt in its content, it's less risky, but still consult a lawyer. Early intervention is important here.

By the way, yes, the document was completely filled out. It didn't specify an amount, but it had the phrase 'for compensation that will arise upon termination.' When he explained this to me, he said, 'everyone does it, it's just a formality.' But right now, I'm uneasy.

But look, you've accepted the explanation that "everyone is doing it." So signing without a logical reason is a problem. I'm not judging you, but because you've made this mistake, the solution might be a bit difficult. I hope you take action before it's too late.
