Something really silly happened to me, guys. My ex is taking my content from social media and sharing it on their own account as if they created it. They’re literally stealing my work. I’m thinking of warning them, but on the other hand, I’m also unsure if I should just ignore it. What would you do?
Yeah, the same thing happened to me. I’m a content creator, and an old friend straight up copied one of my shoot concepts. I directly messaged them and said, ‘You’ve taken this word-for-word, it’s not ethical.’ They took it down; I think you should just be direct as well.
I used to work with my ex for a while, then I found myself in a similar situation. I set up a voice recording and a screenshot and went to my lawyer. They suggested filing an intellectual property lawsuit, but it’s a long process. At least if you gather your documents, you’ll be intimidating.
Send a direct message and state that it belongs to you. If they don’t remove it, you may have copyright on the content, and a lawyer can assist you with this matter. You can also report it as a rights violation to the social media platforms.
It’s not great that it takes your content verbatim, but honestly, why are you so fixated on visuals or your posts? Clearly, you wanted to grab attention anyway. It seems a bit over the top to me. 
There are two possibilities here: If you say the content is original and you have copyright, you can take legal action directly. But if it’s a general design or a common idea, it leans more towards an ethical issue. Don’t forget to document first.

This is not just a situation about you. Women’s labor is constantly being appropriated in this way. They take your ideas and work without your consent and claim them as their own, then normalize it. You need to take a stand because if you just ignore it, someone else will do the same.

This happens to everyone on social media. Most likely, they didn’t do it intentionally or are just trying to provoke you. Update your own content and post something better; your followers will notice anyway. Lawsuits take a long time, just so you know.
