I was upset about the joke he made about his ex-girlfriend

Last week, my fiancée and I attended a gathering with her group of friends. The conversation was lively, but suddenly someone made a joke about her ex-boyfriend, and they all laughed. Honestly, I felt frozen in that moment. Maybe I'm exaggerating, maybe there was no bad intent, but it really got under my skin. The joke was something like: 'Even Ayşe (her ex-boyfriend) knew more about football than you!' At that moment, everyone burst out laughing. Does this seem appropriate for someone who's engaged? Or am I being overly sensitive?

Honestly, I've experienced these situations quite a bit. I think there should be some limits to the jokes about exes. My ex used to constantly say things like, 'Even your best friend's boyfriend was better in that regard.' I realized that these types of people seem unable to let go of their past. Your fiancé might not have ill intentions, but I still think it's not nice for him to say such things around you.

But did you ever say anything there? Did you react, or did you just stay silent? Because sometimes people's silence can be misunderstood.

@gizemci_estetik honestly, a thousand thoughts ran through my mind at that moment but I stayed silent. Since the topic changed right away, I didn’t press it, but I just couldn’t shake it off🙄

So you mean to say that when your fiancée makes a joke, you just stand there without saying anything, and then you come here to talk about your discomfort? Wouldn't it have been better if you had expressed that discomfort in the moment? How should people know what you're thinking? 😂

A similar thing happened to me; I felt the same way. We had gathered as a group of friends, and someone made a joke about an ex. I couldn't hold back and said at that moment, 'I feel uncomfortable; please don't bring this up.' At first, it was a bit tense, but then we sat down and talked. Turns out, while making the joke, they hadn't considered how I would feel, and they apologized. We still talk and laugh about it when it comes to mind. So, such things should be discussed at that moment; otherwise, they sadly tend to grow.

But guys, I don't think it's necessary to blow this out of proportion. I mean, it should be more about focusing on things that will really shake up relationships rather than a joke made about football knowledge. It's not worth starting a fight over; I think it's just a tiny little joke 😂

@skeptik_hesapci but isn't it really wrong to talk about an ex while being engaged? If someone did something like that in our neighborhood, the engagement would be off. Even joking about such things doesn't happen.
