My roommate turned out to be strict like my mom

After months of struggle, I moved out from my family and started living with a friend, but in trying to make things better, I've really messed up. My roommate constantly questions what time I'll be home or who I'll be seeing. "Where will you be at seven in the evening?" they ask! I feel so uncomfortable that I'm starting to miss my lovely family home. The main issue is this: yelling at this person won't solve anything, but if I keep staying silent, my routine will be ruined. How do you think I should talk to them?

exactly this way I left home and went to my friend's place, I managed to last for 3 months. There were always comments about what I ate, what I drank, and what I did. I think it happens like this when you don’t set boundaries from the start.

Was this control event something they did from the beginning, or did it start later? Maybe they continued based on your reaction earlier.

@iki_dakika has always been there, but I was saying it can only go so far, and lately it feels like it’s really become a hassle.

"It's become a bit of a mess; you said you were fine at first, and now you're saying you're uncomfortable. If you had said 'don't do it' from the beginning, it wouldn't have turned out like this. Why did you give them that authority in the first place? 🤦‍♀️"

Honestly, constantly asking questions like 'where are you' and 'who are you with' is a typical example of controlling behavior. You should directly say that you feel uncomfortable and address the violation of personal space. You can use a soft tone, but make your feelings clear.

Are you friends or parent-child? It's not clear.

my roommate was pressuring me to quit smoking. that's why sharing a house is tough, everyone should have their own living space.

Of course, let's respect personal space, but it seems like an environment has been left too open to intervention. I mean, can a situation really be resolved just by talking? I'm not so sure 😮‍💨

In summary, either speak clearly or move out. There's no middle ground here. I don't think anyone can handle this much control.
