My partner told me that their ex was crying

I've been seeing someone for about two months. While everything was going quite well, yesterday they suddenly said, "My ex was very much in love with me, and cried a lot when we broke up." I have no idea why they told me something like that. I didn't press them too much, but it's eating away at me inside. Is this a normal thing, or could they still be thinking about them? Are such conversations a red flag, or am I just reading too much into it?

I think this is a bit weird. The topic of an ex is already very sensitive, so why would they bring up something like this out of the blue? Honestly, I would feel uncomfortable if I were in that situation. I mean, bringing up the past is inevitable, but all these dramatic details, like, why? 😬

Hearing things like that really makes your stomach drop. At that moment, your facial expression also freezes, and you don't even know what to say. Honestly, I don't know what the guy's issue was, but feeling this way is totally normal 🤷‍♀️

I think it would be too harsh to interpret this as "still thinking about the past". Most men talk about things they experienced in the past without attaching any significance to them. Maybe a topic came up, it crossed his mind, and he mentioned it. But if it bothers you, speak up 🫣

Was this the only time, or has he mentioned his ex-girlfriend at other times? Because if he's constantly bringing up stuff like this, it could be a problem. If he's single, maybe it's just something that comes up in conversation.

@sorgulayan actually it's not the first time... they have said things like 'we did this then' a couple of times before, but they hadn't explained it so clearly.

I don't think it's about the past or anything, but is he trying to make you jealous? He's probably done it before, and he might be manipulating you a little bit. Maybe he's testing your reaction. Be careful, I think 🙄

Talking about past relationships can sometimes be reflexive. But if this turns into a habit or discomfort in mutual communication, it’s helpful to talk openly. Express yourself clearly and try to understand the other person's intention 🤭
