The seams of the second-hand dress didn't hold up

The other day, I went to a thrift shop that my friend recommended. I found a really beautiful dress at an incredibly affordable price. It seemed fine when I checked it there, but when I got home, I noticed that the seam on the right side had slightly come undone. If it did that without me even wearing it, would it completely fall apart if I actually wore it? Do you think shopping from places like this is risky? Or should one be prepared for things like this?

In the second-hand market, there’s a 50% chance of this happening. I bought a pair of pants too, and the back pocket literally came apart after the first sit. But the tailor fixed it for 30 lira. Maybe showing it to a tailor could solve your issue.

Has anyone else bought clothes from the store? For example, are these kinds of issues happening all the time or is it just a rare situation?

@soncaykaldi well, the shop generally looked high quality, there were a lot of customers. I guess I didn’t check carefully, I haven’t heard of any other complaints.

@makarnaoncesi but that’s the whole point of second-hand. otherwise, why would it have a second-hand price? you’re taking a risk. if you want brand new clothes, go buy them from the store.

When buying second-hand, stitching, zippers, fabric texture, etc. should be checked thoroughly. If there are small gaps, a tailor can usually fix them quickly. However, if there is more significant deformation, it can turn into an expense in the long run, so be careful.

I think these places are risky. I once bought a sweater, and two hours later the sleeve came off.

to be honest, these boutiques sometimes push poorly conditioned products as ‘second-hand’. As consumers, we need to assert our rights. Buying second-hand is beneficial for the environment and cost-effective, but due to these trust issues, people are staying away.
