I went to the gynecologist for the first time last week; I was already quite tense, but during the examination, I really tensed up. The doctor took it very normally, but I couldn’t properly explain my concerns because I was so embarrassed. Is it always like this, or am I overreacting? Is there anyone else who experienced a doctor’s visit for the first time? How did you get through it?

9I was tense like you when I first went there too. I couldn’t explain my discomfort properly to the doctor, but over time, you get used to it. I also had an infection back then, so I guess I got used to the stress since I had to go for a while longer.
You said you tensed up during the examination, how did the doctor guide you? Did they suggest anything to help you feel more comfortable or give any recommendations?
You felt very normal, because being in that position at that moment makes you feel vulnerable. You even feel ashamed to talk about it. And when there’s someone serious talking to you, you become even more tense.
I think you should control your own tension a bit. You may be going for the first time, but after all, this is the doctor’s job and they do it every day. Your own stress might have made things harder, but if the doctor handled it normally, there shouldn’t be any problem.
In such situations, cramping is normal because it’s related to pelvic floor reflexes. Some doctors suggest breathing exercises or different positions. Next time, you can speak directly with your doctor about this; it can provide a more comfortable solution.
You are right, the doctor was actually very helpful, but I really struggled to explain. I actually went for an irregular menstrual issue, but I couldn’t quite describe how I was feeling.
I was a bit tense because it was my first time going. My friend had gone and directly said, “Don’t be ashamed, don’t stress, the guy does this every day,” which calmed me down a bit. They say to wear something very comfortable underneath that is easy to take off, and so on.
I think your main reason for feeling ashamed or tense might be something personal rather than just a situation. Could it be that you’re actually thinking about something else, like your previous tests, etc.?
Sweetheart, it can be tough the first time but every woman goes through this. The doctors deal with the same thing all the time. Keep your outfit comfortable, write your questions down, and ask them directly. If you stick with it for a while, you’ll feel more at ease.
