My boss's interest in me at work is bothering me.

The store manager is being excessively attentive towards me and it’s making me uncomfortable. They are constantly chatting with me and sometimes spending extra time during work hours. This situation worries me because I don’t want to lose my job. What should I do?

I had a manager like that at my old job too. At first, I didn’t realize what was happening, but then they started scheduling my shifts to coincide with their own on purpose. That’s when I understood there was something more serious going on. I directly set my boundaries, and they never approached me again.

How long has he/she been behaving like this? Did this interest just start, or has it always been like this?

@kahvebitmeden is actually not new, it’s been like this for about three or four months. At first, it wasn’t very noticeable, but now it’s definitely starting to get excessive.

Why didn’t you do anything at the beginning? You’ve been patient for three months, and now you’re disturbed? If you had said something at the start, it wouldn’t have gotten this big.

In such situations, it’s very important to gather evidence if conversations and actions escalate to a tangible level (for example, if they invade your personal space or use inappropriate language). If the discomfort becomes apparent, you can file a complaint with the HR department, but first, be clear about the boundaries of their behavior.

My friend experienced the same thing. The manager wanted another piece of him to be felt in his eyes. My friend always talked about the work he did through the team, maintaining a distance. He also didn’t act friendly towards anyone at the workplace.

it’s an annoying situation

But look, you’re saying “I don’t want to lose my job” while writing the question. So, actually, I think the fear of losing your job weighs heavily when you can’t directly tell the boss to stop. This is part of the issue.

I think you should directly express your discomfort politely. If they don’t understand, you can inform HR about the situation. If you don’t take the first step, it will always continue like this.
