I’m assigning a lot more work to male employees in the same position at the company, and they constantly act as if they’re looking for mistakes. Especially, there’s one manager who, no matter what I say, makes bizarre comments like ‘But you must have misunderstood, men pay attention to these things.’ It’s so frustrating that sometimes I think about resigning, but those around me say ‘is it worth it?’ Do you think I should be patient or should I speak openly?
There’s not really a job for me here, it’s something else. That manager’s talk about men’s work seemed really strange to me. Maybe they’re trying to pressure you into resigning like this? If I were you, I would take a good look at how your relationships are with other employees, for example.
Such discriminatory statements may fall within the scope of mobbing in labor law. If you consider filing a complaint, it would be wise to detail the situations in writing, as you may need to gather evidence. However, it would be advisable to consult a lawyer to be able to provide a clear statement.
They say that especially men pay attention to things like this, right? I don’t think you should take it personally. These kinds of statements are just wrong stereotypes that someone has created in their own mind; I don’t think they relate to you. Keep doing your job well, and maybe over time things will change ![]()
Let me add that this guy talks like this not only to me but also to other female employees in general. But of course, my burden is heavier because he constantly makes excuses about the mismatch between us. For example, in a recent email, he simply said I was ‘not suitable for the male team.’ It’s a shame.
But there’s also this: just like in all workplaces, there is a solidarity among men. As a woman there, you should also act a bit cautiously. Maybe you’re not aware of your behavior; you might come across as too harsh or distant?
It seems everyone is blaming the manager here, but maybe they’re just trying to help you improve. Usually, those who place a lot of responsibility are actually focusing on those with potential. The mismatch with the male team might come off as a lack of professionalism or something like that.
