The joke my gynecologist made really bothered me; am I overreacting?

I went to the gynecologist yesterday; I had irregular periods. During the examination, the doctor made a joke, asking, “Are we expecting a baby, or is it stress?” I was really uncomfortable; after all, this is a very private matter. Do you think I’m overreacting, or was the line really crossed? What should be done in such a situation?

I don’t think you’re exaggerating at all. I had a gynecologist who, during the examination, asked, ‘Is the person next to you your spouse?’ and started questioning my love life. In an already stressful environment, such things are really unpleasant. A doctor should act professionally.

“My daughter, if this happened to me, I would directly say there, ‘These matters cannot be joked about, doctor.’ I wouldn’t go back again. You set the boundary; if you felt uncomfortable, that’s the issue.”

So did you say anything at that moment? Did you just leave without reacting? Because if you had mentioned such a situation, maybe they would have realized it. Doctors are human too; sometimes they can speak without thinking.

But stress really does cause irregular periods; maybe that’s why she said that to you. Otherwise, there can’t possibly be a baby, I mean, the doctor would know for sure. They say stress is the root of everything, so that might be it.

The girl said yesterday while talking to my cousin, “I’ve seen so many gynecologists, if one of them makes a joke, I swear I’ll get turned off from doctors.” That’s so true, seriousness is needed in these matters. Even though our cousin doesn’t care, I think she’s right.

I went to the gynecologist for irregular menstrual cycles; they had done a hormone test first. They probably said it was due to your stress, but of course, everyone has a limit to what they can handle. If you felt uncomfortable, you might consider going and filling out a complaint form.

Girls, let me add this, the doctor had quite a laugh after I said that. When I made a tense face, he fell silent, but there was an awkward silence. Honestly, I’ve never experienced anything like this before, I wanted to ask what to do.

But what if the doctor was trying to lighten the atmosphere with humor? It might be wrong to look at it solely from a malicious intent perspective. After all, obstetricians often encounter such things; maybe to her, this is just a normal joke.

I don’t know which city you’re in, but if something like this has bothered you, you need to be clear that you are not satisfied with the doctor. Whether you report it to the hospital management or go to another doctor, express your discomfort so that the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else.
