I've fallen out of fashion due to my weight

Honestly, I haven't felt good at all because of the weight I've gained over the past few years. No matter what I wear, it seems like it doesn't look good on me. I always wear black because I think I can't pull off other colors. But at the same time, I don't want to completely give up on myself. Do you think that's the right mindset? How can someone with a few extra pounds incorporate themselves into fashion? Do you have any suggestions?

You've mentioned wearing black, and there was a time when I was always wearing black too because I thought other colors made me look bigger. But for example, I had tried something with a black and white pattern, and it felt different. Have you ever tried combinations like that?

My friends were constantly buying neon colors and all that, but at first, I didn't get into that style at all. Then one day someone told me, 'Because you're worried about hiding your weight.' That comment really woke me up. Do you have those kinds of comments around you, do they affect you?

I don't think it's just about weight, you know. If you care about it as much as you say, you should be stressed even when shopping. It seems more related to confidence than clothes. Are you putting extra pressure on yourself, maybe? 😬

I don't want to misunderstand you, but you're saying 'how do I get into fashion?', yet at the same time you're saying 'I can't wear other colors'. It seems like you're stuck where you are. You need to think that you'll wear them first; how can you decide without trying?

I'm not an expert, but I listened to a panel about body positivity. They mentioned something like, 'making peace with yourself is more meaningful than following trends, but trends can suit everyone.' Actually, you can look for cuts that fit your body shape besides weight.

Let me update you: My friends usually don't say much about this, but you know, when I step into a store, everything looks super fit, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong. For example, the low-rise jeans trend is coming back, and it feels impossible for me to wear those kinds of pants. What do you think?

My daughter had the same situation with my niece. She always wore oversized clothes and said, 'It looks bad on me.' But with just a few pieces of the right cut, she started to feel better about herself. You might also consider consulting an expert.

If you don't want to wear low-rise, definitely go for high-rise. They make the body look longer and accentuate the waist. Additionally, you can try earth tones or dark blues along with black; they’re perfect for hiding weight. I think you should also ask for help from a store assistant; most of them are quite helpful.
