She reported me for not paying the rent

I’m having trouble with my landlord. I’ve sent him a notice since he hasn’t paid rent for six months, because he wasn’t responding to my calls or properly addressing me. But yesterday I found out that he has filed a complaint against me this time. I think he’s trying to portray me as a malicious tenant. Doesn’t that sound ridiculous to you? He’s not making payments and then blaming me. Has something like this happened to you? Do you have any ideas?

I experienced something similar once, even though I paid my rent, I was accused. I went straight to the lawyer with the receipts, and it didn’t take long to resolve. If you don’t have receipts in your situation, it could be a problem.

So did you hand over the rent in cash? Or is there a receipt or bank information available?

I was actually giving it to @camkenari, but I already regret it. But the WhatsApp messages are still there; I had written when I gave it to them.

@aklimkaldi not getting a receipt after handing over is your fault. What if there’s a correspondence? It’s not like it’s an official document. I don’t understand why you’re doing such risky things

If there is a debt payment but no receipt, WhatsApp messages can be used as evidence, but they are not directly accepted. You have no choice but to hire a lawyer. You need to act quickly because if they file a lawsuit, it could give them leverage.

I don’t think it’s as ridiculous as they say; anyone without proof will be accused anyway. It’s normal.

@kirmizioda you’re right, but not everyone lives like a lawyer. They might have done it out of habit.

My landlord claimed for months that he hadn’t received any rent either, and at that moment I realized that everything needs to be documented. I struggled, somehow sorted it out with the receipts, but I was honestly stressed to death. If money is changing hands in cash, it’s a different story; it will be hard to defend yourself.
