I'm experiencing irregular periods due to a cyst

My doctor said that the cysts could affect my menstrual cycle, but there's nothing about how much it has impacted me. I'm scared; what will happen if this continues? What should I do, should I go back to the doctor?

I had a situation like this too. I wouldn't get my period every six months or so, and my doctor suggested birth control to stabilize things. It really helped; the cysts decreased and my cycle returned to normal. But once I stopped the medication, it started to go haywire again.

You've said you're not afraid or anything, but you seem to be worried if this goes on, so isn't that clearly being afraid?

@kirmizikazak actually I wrote that wrong, I didn't mean to say I'm not scared. I can say I panicked more. They just told me to take the medicine and left.

Has reglin completely stopped or is it irregular? I mean, for example, does it happen every two months, but does it still happen?

@kahvebitmeden I can say I haven't really been in months, like I said. For example, I can say I haven't really been since the beginning of the summer.

The size, type, and location of cysts greatly affect menstrual irregularities. An ultrasound and hormone test will clarify which type it is. If you want to see the doctor again, especially for the hormonal test, you may need to wait for the start date of your period.

@benbisorayim the part about waiting for the start date of the period is not definitive. I also never had my period start, they measured the hormone levels directly. Of course, it can vary from person to person.

If your period doesn't start at all, the doctor can assess directly through low progesterone; they can perform some hormone tests without waiting for your cycle. You might need to press your doctor firmly, asking "why are we waiting?"

No details were provided about the type of cysts; perhaps the reason they say "wait" is because it's a functional cyst and they think it will resolve on its own. But in that case, they would suggest follow-up checks, like an ultrasound or blood test every 2-3 months. It's strange that they left you completely unanswered.

Even if there is a functional cyst, it's not normal to be this long without your period. Has there been any check-up done, have your hormones ever been tested? If not, your doctor might be neglecting it.

The type of cyst is important, but are you experiencing any other symptoms besides not having your period? For example, increased hair growth, weight gain, excessive acne, etc. These symptoms could indicate polycystic ovary syndrome or a hormonal imbalance, which could be an issue independent of the cyst. Make sure to discuss these complaints with your doctor as well.

In addition to not having your period, do you have complaints like abdominal pain or bloating? If the cyst is growing or putting pressure on something, such symptoms can occur as well. If you haven't had check-ups in a long time, I suggest taking it seriously.

The size of the cyst may be small enough not to cause abdominal pain or swelling, but it can still be effective enough to disrupt hormonal balance. Are you waiting, relying on the chance that it will resolve on its own, or have you never asked directly? It's important to understand the reason for waiting.

If menstrual irregularity has been ongoing for a long time, waiting makes sense to a certain extent, but the "it will resolve itself" approach may lead to wasting time. Have you considered getting multiple doctor opinions? Some cysts are dismissed as "simple," but more detailed examinations may be necessary to determine if there is another underlying issue.
