I panicked at the pharmacy after a late period

I have been taking the birth control pill regularly, but it has been 10 days since I was supposed to get my period. My heart was literally racing when I went to the pharmacy to buy a test. Am I pregnant, or is there another problem? Should I see a doctor?

If you're taking birth control pills, pregnancy is pretty unlikely.

Is 10 days a first? Has it ever been delayed like this before?

@kahvebitmeden yes, it's delayed this much for the first time. Normally, it's very punctual.

You say you've been using the pill regularly, but even if you forgot just one, there's a risk. Are you absolutely sure?

If the birth control pill is used correctly, protection is 99%. A delay could be hormonal. It makes sense to take a test, then visit a doctor.

There's still a chance of not getting your period even while taking the pill, but a 10-day delay is a bit long. Even if the test shows negative, I don't think you should neglect seeing a doctor; sometimes the pills can cause hormonal imbalances. It would be good to get checked out from the beginning.

Even with regular usage of the pill, there can sometimes be a delay in period or even a complete absence of it, but as you said, if this is unusual for you, it's best to talk to a doctor after taking a test. Especially if it's been 10 days, it's important to find out if it’s hormonal or if there’s another reason. I think you should get it checked before any more delays.

Relying on birth control pills to regulate your menstruation can be misleading because this bleeding is already a result of the hormone's artificial effect. If you've taken the pill correctly, the chance of pregnancy is low, but there may be other hormonal imbalances or other issues. It's essential to take a definitive pregnancy test, then visit a doctor for an ultrasound check. A blood test may also be necessary.

Even with the use of Hap, if you've experienced such a delay, it's also good to consider the possibility that the medication you're using may interact with other drugs or supplements, reducing its effectiveness. Have you taken anything like antibiotics or herbal tea in the past few weeks? Sometimes, people unknowingly take something that diminishes the effect.
