My husband's inappropriate joke made me uncomfortable, am I overreacting?

My spouse made a rather personal joke about me in front of friends the other evening. Everyone laughed, and I brushed it off lightly, but I felt very uncomfortable inside. When we got home, I brought it up, and they said, 'Come on, everyone made couple jokes.' But I really felt like it was a boundary violation. Do you think things like that are humor or disrespect?

I experienced a similar situation. My spouse also said something like 'our woman doesn't get up until noon' in front of friends, and everyone laughed. I stayed quiet at that moment, but it really stuck with me afterwards. When I said it clearly, they regretted it. I think you should talk about it, but emotionally 🥲

Honestly, it can be hard to brush off humor, especially if you've been offended. In a calmer setting, explain one by one what bothered you and why. Starting with "I felt bad at that moment because..." will make it softer.

This actually seems like a boundary issue. In a marriage, a private space forms between two people, and the violation of that space varies from person to person. Maybe you can suggest discussing this in that private space with your partner. Psychologically, such sensitivities affect both parties.

What's with this logic? They just made a joke, they didn't make fun of you. People sometimes say things like this because they know their partner's temperament. You seem to take it very personally.

So, something like this happened: when I got home that evening, I actually gave an example. I said, 'Do I talk about your personal matters?' He replied, 'But it wasn't so personal.' It's really confusing 🫠

What happens between husband and wife stays between them. People don't know whether to act rudely or mock; not every joke is appropriate, and these matters are serious. Privacy requires respect.

It really feels bad to feel embarrassed in that environment. It seems like all the attention is on you. I think you should share this feeling directly with your partner. They’ll understand the impact of their joke more clearly 😂

Once, someone said to me, 'Ayşe needs to sit in the front seat, but mine will get stuck in the trunk.' While everyone was laughing, I thought to myself, 'no way.' It's something like what you understood.

There's a boundary issue here, but if we can't even joke between husband and wife, what are we going to do? In a friend group, there's no need to get so tense; clearly, they didn't make a big deal out of it. Do we really have to see this as disrespect?
