My husband doesn't talk for days when he's angry

When we argue, my husband literally silences the entire house. Sometimes he doesn't speak for days, even up to a week. He suddenly goes into this mode over the smallest issues. Even if I apologize, he stubbornly continues like this. Is this normal, and how can I cope with it?

My spouse used to do the same when we argued; they would sulk for a week. I finally said, 'If this continues, this house won't work,' and then it decreased, but it didn't stop completely. It seems like it's a habit or something like that. We need to solve it by talking, but the guy doesn't even talk.

So, while doing this silence, do they continue with normal family tasks like cooking, grocery shopping, or is there no communication at all? 🤔

@meraklilikiz She's not doing anything extreme, but for example, she doesn't eat, just orders takeout or something. I mean, she completely withdraws into her own corner 🙂

@hayatımzorlu I think the guys sometimes stay quiet so they won't be pressured too much. Don’t we women sometimes get a bit too nagging? Every little action immediately becomes a topic of debate. Maybe he's defending himself this way, you should wait a bit too.

This is not a conflict resolution method, but rather an attitude that exacerbates the conflict. The reason your partner behaves this way may be either because they can't cope with stress and completely shut themselves off or because they use silence as a mechanism of control. In such situations, couples therapy can be beneficial, as they may also be suffering from this attitude.

@sessizligindili but do you think this method is healthy? Can a relationship be like this? If a person who cannot express themselves constantly creates distance, neither will be happy in the long run. Isn't the whole point to resolve the situation?

I swear this is outright emotional abuse in my opinion. You're even apologizing and still being stubborn? That's completely unjustified. You have to talk.

I don't think it's a small matter at all. Otherwise, why would he react so strongly to something so simple? The guy either has something else he’s been holding onto, or there’s already a fundamental incompatibility in the marriage. You say it's over a small issue, but likely it wasn't small in his eyes.

Days without radio at home... Honestly, it's like you've married a stubborn driver who won't even accept an apology. I get stressed just reading it 😅
