My neighbor told my mom about my bikini photos

Last week, I posted a photo of myself on vacation on Instagram, taken from above and I’m in a bikini by the sea. Today, my mom called and said, ‘So-and-so aunt is saying that you’re posting such photos, I’m really upset.’ So why would someone share something that’s meant for my private account? Now I had a disagreement with my mom, and I seriously regret posting it. But isn’t this a matter of freedom? Do you think it’s normal for it to cause this much trouble?

To be honest, people like these kinds of photos because it’s more about the ‘mystery’ than the bikini. Leaving some things hidden while showing the personal attracts attention. But families don’t understand this, especially in our culture where it directly relates to ‘decency.’

So is your mom someone sensitive to such things? If so, you should have talked to her and tried to win her over first. If you did something that upset her, instead of arguing, you should try to understand.

@kadir_kiymetci actually, we don’t talk about these kinds of topics, but he knew I was active on social media. Anyway, my account is private, so not everyone can see it.

@soran you might have been a bit careless too, after all, if you live in a closed environment it’s not hard to predict that the neighbor could see and gossip about it. I think if you had acted considering your mother as well, there wouldn’t have been so much drama.

Actually, the issue here goes beyond sharing on social media; it’s about who you share your privacy with. Even if it’s an account you call private, there’s a risk of screenshots being taken and sent to others. It’s important to discuss this well, especially whether there are boundaries with family or not.

I kind of agree with your mom a bit. It’s your personal space, but they also can’t relax. While doing something, you should take them into account and keep your distance well. Make sure nothing happens that could damage the trust between you.

The same thing happened to me too, I had posted a photo during the summer vacation, and my aunt told my mom, ‘Your daughter is posting all sorts of pictures on the beach.’ My mom got really upset, so I reviewed who was following my account and removed a few people. I’m more careful now :woman_facepalming:

I think you’ve blown this situation out of proportion too. After all, everyone on Instagram is in bikinis, and no one is going around gossiping to their neighbors. That aunt of yours seems a bit too idle, so I think you should cut her out of your life. You can sort things out with your mom; get well soon.

@ogrenci how can you say that the person is unemployed when they are your neighbor? After all, we live in a society, my daughter. If it were my daughter, I would be angry too. Everyone in the neighborhood is looking at each other. Have you ever thought about your family’s name?
